This course had already taken place in April 2022 covering the following a course of 6 sessions.
There is a saying “If you could live the first 50 years of life without major ill health; the next 50 years will be your Golden Years – a gift of healthy longevity”. Healthy longevity is not a given; you must nurture your body, mind, and spirit to attain a healthy outcome.
Lifespan is the number of years you lived, Healthspan is the number of healthy years before death, while Disease span is the number of years you suffered before death. The average Lifespan of Singaporean is 85 years, the world 3rd highest; while the average Healthspan for Singaporean is 73.9 years, the world highest. These are excellent statistics, but there is an 11 years of Disease span from chronic degenerative diseases among 90% of Singaporeans. This is rather unfortunate because we should die naturally of old age. The answer lies in this adage: “You’re what you eat, how you live and how you think”. This course “Food for Healthy Aging” gives you the road maps to eliminate the 11 years of Disease span.
This course has six sessions to guide you through the journey of health recovery. These sessions are conducted in an interactive tutorial style in a relax ambience. Each session has of 3 components: the science, the disruptors, and how to use food as medicine.
The topics are as follow:
Food for Healthy Aging - introduction
Aging is a natural sequence of human life, but accelerated aging is a disease that should and could be prevented. The two major drivers of Chronic Degenerative Diseases are chronic hyper-inflammatory imbalance due to senescence and eating inflammatory food, and high calorie diet. Together they are responsible for 90% of our illnesses and 70% of all deaths. While the causes are chronic degenerative diseases are numerous, unhealthy food is key. Yes, food is like a two-edged sword: it gives life or kills you.
Advancements in healthcare prolong lifespan, long into old age. Senescence or elderhood comes with major health dysfunctions, one of which is hyperinflammatory response triggered by an infection. During the Covid-19 pandemic, hyperinflammatory response accounts for the severity in adults; and death among seniors.
You will understand the importance of staying healthy to be Covid-19 ready.
Stay lean – prevents Type-2 Diabetes.
Obesity is the most common lifestyle malady, inflicting the rich and poor alike. Globally, 10% of the population are obese and Singapore falls into this category. Preventing obesity, effectively prevents T2D, which is responsible for almost all Chronic Degenerative Diseases. That is because diabetes is the metabolic disruptor of cellular functions and integrity. This session shows how glucose and fructose impact you.
You will understand the science behind energy for life, why staying lean is difficult, on problems with obesity, the role of insulin, and how food can be your medicine.
Stay clear – prevents heart attack.
Heart attack was number 1 death epidemic ‘yesterday’. The basic cause is vascular inflammation. The most serious inflammatory disruptor is dietary artificial trans fats. This session shows you why healthy diet that contains natural cholesterol and healthy saturated fats is not the culprit as we are made to believe. You will understand whether inflammation is good or bad, about the rise of inflammation, consequences of inflammation, on hypertension, on high cholesterol, on saturated fats, on hypoxia and heart attack, and how food can be your medicine.
Stay Smart – prevents Alzheimer’s.
Our brain, our mastermind is the last organ to fail us before death. Yet today, it can be the first to go. Staying smart, not only prevents Alzheimer’s diseases, but it also gives us a better quality of life. WHO predicts mental diseases will be the number 1 health epidemic by the next decade? This threat is significant since we are now living longer than ever.
You will learn how to stay smart to ward off Alzheimer’s disease. You will understand about smartness, getting smarter, getting Alzheimer’s disease, and how food can be your medicine.
Stay Healthy – prevents Cancer.
Cancer is No 1 killer today, worldwide. Once diagnosed, it’s like a life sentence. The prognosis is poor, the treatment is terrible, and the cost is formidable. That’s why “Prevention is better than cure” when it comes to cancer! While the cause of cancer is multifactorial, every cancer has 9 immortal powers that resist conventional treatment. This session shows you how to prevent cancer and eliminate its 9 immortal powers.
You will learn why oxygen is essential for aerobic metabolism that keeps you healthy. On the other hand, hypoxia transforms normal cell to cancer cell. You would understand how food can be your medicine.
